Did anyone else read Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid? You know, the ones where the main character is walking down a spooky hallway in the bowels of an ancient castle when suddenly she sees a secret passageway. Then you, as the reader, get to choose whether she continues down the spooky hallway (turn to page 77) or she follows the secret passageway instead (turn to page 28).
I used to love Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid because I, as the reader, had the power to determine where the character went next. In hindsight, I maybe should have taken that as a sign, but whatever. That's not really the point of this post.
The point is I'm proposing we have our own little "Choose Your Own Adventure" this weekend. I've selected two villages within bus range of Bath. You, as the reader, get to choose which adventure I take by voting in my poll at the bottom of this post.
Fun right? You have until noon on Saturday to decide. I'll post pictures and tales from the adventure next week.
To present your options in an unbiased way, I am reposting information about each village from the Cotswold tourist information website.
LACOCK
A visit to the village is akin to taking a step back in time, owned and managed by the National Trust, it has been beautifully preserved and unchanged since it was a thriving township that traded in wool. The village, which dates from the 13th century and has many limewashed half-timbered and stone houses, was used as a location in the TV and film productions of Pride and Prejudice, Moll Flanders and Emma. The Abbey also featured in the recent Harry Potter films.
BRADFORD ON AVON
In and around the unspoilt market town of Bradford on Avon which is the last outpost of the Cotswolds in the western corner of Wiltshire close to the borders of Somerset. The magical appeal of the towns position on the banks of the River Avon gives visitors a wonderful setting for leisure, cultural and tourist activities. Bradford on Avon has delightful shops, restaurants, hotels and bed and breakfasts lining the narrow streets of the town centre. The surrounding hillside is covered with cotswold stone houses and cottages of every shape and size.
