Beware the Angry Leprechaun

Happy (early) St. Patrick's Day!

Anyhoo, this time last year, I was in Nice, France pondering whether I should order an Angry Leprechaun (ie a little green concoction whose description alone practically gave me a hangover). I had just about mustered up enough courage to try one when a fellow hosteler started stumbling around, drunkenly shouting "Beware the Angry Leprechaun!!!"

Which, really, when you think about it is a good life lesson for us all. Plus, I like my little green men happy, thank you very much.

This year, I will instead be partaking in Heppner, Oregon's (almost) famous Wee Bit O' Ireland celebration. The highlights include an Irish Boxing Smoker, Sheep Dog Trials, Welly Toss, a Leprechaun Run, and something called Ewe-Do-Bingo, which apparently involves live sheep.

Of course, there will be a little bit of good old-fashioned Irish drinking too. Because nothing says Ireland like live sheep, short green men, and drunk people faking Irish accents.
